If you drive
Choose the route from Como, Varese or Milan before leaving. The vignette only applies on chargeable Swiss motorways; traffic and parking differ greatly between Mendrisio, Lugano and Locarno.
If you take the train
TILO and connections via Chiasso make Lugano and Mendrisio easy to reach. Locarno takes longer. The outbound is simple—the important check is the final return on your date.
